Once upon a Time, in the 1970s, there was a Band named WinterWood
Originally composed of Casey Cooper and Bill Heinowski on guitar (mainly acoustic guitar although we did experiment a little with electrics), with Darrell Hopper on vocals. Later, when Darrell had left and was serving our country, we added Rick Braman on bass. Over the years, the core of Bill and Casey stayed pretty consistent though others came and went. Later when Darrell left the service he and Casey jammed together and played a few parties as well, also under the WinterWood name.

After a hiatus of a few years, about 1999, or so. we decided to “get the band back together”. This time, along with Bill and Casey, we added Mark Jagger on acoustic guitar, and Darrel came back to sing. We performed at parties and at a couple of events. In the year 2000, we recorded an album in Bill’s spare room in Reading, Michigan. The band members composed the songs, and Bill recorded them on his computer. We named it “The Journey“. After an opening track with my poem “The Journey Begins” and Bill’s overture, the first song is – Sittin’ – by C.W. (Bill) Heinowski.
Shortly after, we recorded another album composed of some of the cover songs we were playing when we performed. We named this album “Under Cover“.
After a time, as happens with far too many bands and other creative projects, there were some disagreements between some members, and we stopped performing and playing together as a group. I later moved away from Michigan to help care take my aging father and stepmother in South Carolina. I was not finished making music, however.
After I retired in 2020, I created my own home studio, which I named WinterWood Projects. There I composed and recorded a fantasy concept album of what I call ‘Sword and Sorcery Rock’, which I called “The Glory Road”. This was to become the musical outline for my epic fantasy series of the same name, “The Glory Road”
Later I started work on another concept album called “The City of Life”. One song from that album is called “Crazy Days (Daze)/Madmen and Angels”
Sadly, Mark passed away, far too young, in 2021. RIP.
